Daysie's trip to Best Friends

Daysie made the 6 hour trip (due to weather and bad roads) to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary! Our vet gave her a medication to make her tired so she would not be stressed in the car. So she slept comfortably the whole way. Here are a few picture's of the big day! (Sorry this update is so delayed). I will continue to post updates on her progress as I get them! Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible for Daysie.

UPDATE-- MARCH 25, 2011

For those of you who are following Daysie's story, you will be happy to know that Daysie's journey has taken an unexpected turn. Daysie has been accepted to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Knab, Utah. We will be very sad to see her go. But we feel that we have done all we can for her both medically and mentally. Daysie still needs help to get her skin allergie's under control, and she has a lot of fears, and we don't know how to help her.
For those of you who don't know about Best Friends, they are considered to be one of the best, if not THE best animal sanctuary rescue's in the world! It is very hard to get a dog into their program. And most people that apply do not get accepted. So Daysie is VERY lucky to be going into their program! They will give her all the treatments she needs and finally get her itching and skin under control, and she will be working with some of the best dog trainers available to help her overcome some of her mental issues. Then she will be placed up for adoption. She is going to have a wonderful life! We are very sad, but very happy for her.
We will be taking Daysie to Best Friends on Sunday, March 27. So we will post pictures and an update then. Here is an updated picture of Daysie. :)

DAYSIE UPDATE!! March 14th

Daysie went to the vet today for her follow up visit, and it went very well! She had all of her stitches removed, and everything healed perfectly. We talked to the vet about her itching, (because this is still very much an issue) and she said that this can take a VERY long time to get under control. She said it is common for dogs with severe allergies like Daysie has to be itchy for many month's while we figure out which combination of foods and medications work for her. So she is now down to only 2 medications per day and now we are soaking her feet in a vinegar and water mixture every day to help control the bacteria.
Daysie has gained 5 pounds since March 2nd!!!! We could'nt believe it!! She must be feeling so much better. I know her mouth is feeling better! lol. So she is now healthy enough to be placed up for adoption. So if you or someone you know is interested in adopting Daysie, please contact us to fill out an application. She is a wonderful dog. She is 10 years young, and looking for a quiet home with no small children. She is potty trained, very smart, and she LOVES to play ball! For more information on her, please contact us at rsqdogs.yahoo.com

DAYSIE'S SURGERY UPDATE- MARCH 3RD

Daysie had her surgery yesterday, and everything went very well. She had a total of 4 large masses removed, 2 painful broken teeth removed, and a full dental. She has a TON of stitches everywhere, and she has to wear an E-Collar so that she does not lick her wounds. She seems to be resting comfortably due to her much needed pain medication. She will need to eat only soft food for 2 weeks, and she will go in for a follow-up visit in 10 days. Here are some of the "After Surgery Pictures".

DAYSIE UPDATE FEBRUARY 7, 2011

Hi everyone, we just got home from the vet with Daysie, and there is good new's and bad new's. The good new's is that all of her open sore's are closed and healed and her skin is looking much better. The doctor did skin scraping's again today, and there is still yeast, bacteria, and secondary infection on her legs and feet, so she will be on anti-biotic's for at least another month. The doctor also aspirated 2 cyst's that she was worried about, and they are NOT cancerous! But they will need to be removed. The bad new's is that Daysie will need to have surgery to remove the "pocket of infection" that is on her back. It is not healing and that is the only way to get rid of it. So the estimate that we got for the surgery to remove both cysts, remove the pocket of infection on her back, and to remove her painful broken teeth and do a much needed cleaning is $700 dollars. And then she should be a brand new doggie, and she should be ready to go up for adoption. (As long as everything goes as planned.) The vet gave us a really good deal today, she only charged us for the visit and the medications, and not for the skin scrapings and aspirating the cysts. And I know that she is giving us a really good deal on her surgery too. But it is still alot of money!- We will be doing another raffle, and I will be selling a few things to raise this money for Daysie. She is a senior, but she is a wonderful dog and she is full of life, and she deserves to live out the rest of her years as someone's best friend.- So if anyone has a prize that they would be willing to donate to us to raffle off, please let us know. We have already gotten one donated prize that is really cool. We will be posting the detail's of the next raffle soon. THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!

Update on Daysie- Jan. 31, 2011

Daysie was suppost to have a follow up visit with the vet today, but the vet had a family emergency and will not be in again until next Monday. So I will not have a Dr. update until then. But she is still struggling with the pocket of infection on her back. It is not healing and the Dr. said if we can't get it to heal soon she will need surgery to remove it. She is also still itching alot even with the medication to help with the itching. But her skin does look a little better, and alot of the open sore's are healing up with the antibiotic's that she is on. Thanks again to everyone who has donated. We really appreciate it! We are getting close to the raffle. We have 83 LIKES on our facebook page. As soon as we get 100 LIKES, we will do the raffle.

I would be happy to provide proof of Daysie's medical bills, or give reference's of people who have adopted dog's from us in the past to insure you that we are honest people and all donations are going toward Daysie's care. Or if you would feel more comfortable donating directly to our vet. I would be happy to provide you with that information.

Also, if you are interested in adopting Daysie when she is fully recovered, or if you would like more information about her, please let us know.

ABOUT DAYSIE

Daysie is a 10 year old blue heeler mix. She is a wonderful dog that is suffering from many medical issues. She has a severe skin allergie that was left untreated for over a year. So now she has many infections, hair loss, open sores, and her skin is covered in yeast and bacteria. We have been fostering Daysie for a few weeks and I have taken her in to see the vet. She had skin scrapings, and they drained the big pocket of infection and she is now on 3 medications and has a medicated bath once a week. She is also on a very expensive specific diet to help control her allergie's. Daysie also has other medical issue's that we have not even begun to treat yet. She has a few broken teeth that the vet said must be quite painful to her, so she will need a dental, and she also has a tumor that will need to be aspirated and diagnosed. This wonderful girl is full of life, and she deserves to live her senior years happy and comfortable!
Daysie's road to recovery will probably be a long one. She will need many vet visit's, and her medications and special diet are very expensive. We are not a licensed rescue, but we are very honest people that are trying to make a difference one dog at a time.
